Bob and Harvey Weintstein have big plans in store for martial arts and fantasy fans by bringing the Academy Award nominated film “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” to the legitimate stage.

Under a remarkable deal The Weinstein Company has bought up the rights to a series of martial arts novels (The Crane Pentalogy) written by Wang Du Lu set in the Qing Dynasy. Bob and Harvey want all the novels to be brought to both stage and screen.

The first to get stage treatment will be the highly successful novel-to-film adaptation of “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” with the remaining five to follow as either spin-off stage performances or feature films (or both). The remaining series of novels include “Crane Frightens KunLun,” “Precious Sword,” “Golden Hairpin,” “Sword Spirit, Pearl Light” and “Iron Knight, Silver Vase.”
