“Jericho”: Life in a Small Kansas Town

March 12, 2006 By Kyle Nin 3 Comments

The unthinkable has happened. The United States has been destroyed by a nuclear holocaust, wiping out the American way of life and leaving Western civilization in the throes of every conceivable horror.

Such is the synopsis of “Jericho”, the Ridley and Tony Scott produced television show that follows the lives of people struggling to carry on in a small, isolated Kansas town.

The new CBS series will star Skeet Ulrich (The Newton Boys, Scream) as the son of Jericho’s mayor who has leadershp of the community suddenly thrust upon him. The pilot will be helmed by the famous director Jon Turteltaub based upon the post apocalytic script written by Stephen Chbosky (Rent). Other cast members at this time include Ashley Scott (Into the Blue), Lennie James (Sahara) and Erik Knudsen (Saw II).

The show, slated for CBS’s new fall lineup, is scheduled to begin shooting within the next two weeks.

I’m not a Yank so excuse any geo-political errors with the next couple of comments but I thought Kansas was smack-bang right in the middle of nuke silo country and would therefore been more or less ground zero in any armageddon type scenario. Or am I confusing Kansas with some other mid-western states? Just a thought.

If you check out here you can see that only the populated areas see major damage based on this 1990s era map.

while flat & boring as hell (speaking from experience, I lived in KS for the first 31 years of my life) western Kansas isn’t very interesting for most of the world except those that like beef.

So as long as they don’t say they’re just oustide of Kansas City, or Wichita, it is feasable.

What keeps out the cold wind in Kansas?
    A thin barewire fence.
