CW Not “Charmed”

March 4, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 2 Comments

It appears that long running the WB show “Charmed” couldn’t muster up enough magic to keep the new CW Network’s top guns happy enough to keep it on the lineup, so it doesn’t survive the merger and has been cut from next season’s schedule.

The supernatural series starred Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs as the bewitching, spell encanting Halliwell sisters. The show remained popular and ran for eight seasons, making it the WB’s longest running success story. Shannon Doherty started out on the series as one of the sisters, but her character was eventually killed off in season three.

All three stars felt the chill in the air once the merger between UPN and the WB had been completed, as did executive producer Brad Kern. In an interview for TVGuide he said that because it was becoming apparant the show may not survive the network’s demise and rebirth as CW, he decided to write this season’s finale as a series finale, making sure the cast and fans could get the closure they deserved. “It’s been a hell of a run,” Kern said, “but all good things must come to an end.”

The final episode of Charmed will air on May 21, 2006 on the WB.

By the last season finale and some rumors I heard, I think last season was suppose to be the end. That would have been a decent series finale too. I thought I heard the fan outcry gave it an extra year (this season). I’m not sure anyone really expected it to live any longer, even if CW did not come into the picture.

I think that someone is making drama out of nothing… I watched an Interview on E! with Rose McGowan and she was very clear that this was their last season because their/her contract was up and they/she was ready to move on. I think that there was mention of this being their last season before the merger was ever announced… oh well, just thought I would share…
