Today was to be “Black Friday” for all U.S. BlackBerry users.
A U.S. District Court Judge has declined to shut down BlackBerry portable email devices, at least for the immediate future. However, the judge was quick to remind Canadian based Research in Motion, Ltd (RIM) that they were found responsible for infringing the patent rights of the competing NTP, Inc. And while the judge conceded this fact he has decided to reconsider the arguments on both sides and render his decision “as soon as reasonably possible.”
RIM and BlackBerry users have, at least for now, a reprieve and RIM’s stock shared in the welcome news by showing a 12.7% rise on its stock holdings after the news filtered out of the court room.
