James Bond fans worldwide have banded together and formed a website to protest Barbara Broccoli’s decision to drop Pierce Brosnan as Agent 007 for the fair-haired Brit Daniel Craig.
The group called “CraigNotBond” hold firmly to the belief that Brosnan was just reaching his stride and was at the height of his popularity as the veritable British agent with a license to kill when producer Broccoli took away that license and handed it to the first ever blonde Bond.
Citing the fact that the movie business depends on its ticket buying customer, the creator of the “CraigNotBond” Website said that, “the opinion of Bond fans should be first in the minds of EON and Sony. There was such a negative outcry when they let go of Pierce Brosnan. Even if it was impossible in their minds to bring him back, there were dozens of actors available to play the part. Hugh Jackman and Clive Owen both practically lobbied for the part, and would have been suitable successors for Brosnan.”
The outspoken critic of EON Productions, Sony and Broccoli went on to say, “It is clear to us that EON simply did not want to put up the money necessary to bring back Brosnan, or bring name actors like Jackman or Owen to the table. And now, because of EON’s short sightedness and recurrent frugality, they expect us to accept Daniel Craig as Bond without blinking an eye. As Bond fans and as loyal customers we say bollocks to EON and Sony Pictures!”
“Even in the movie business, the old saying that ‘the customer is always right’holds true. Since EON and Sony Pictures have chosen to ignore their most loyal customers, we have no choice but to boycott the 21st James Bond film, Casino Royale.”
The Clarion Call From “CraigNotBond”
“We call upon Bond fans around the world to join us in this boycott. If we all stand together, and stay home when this ill-conceived movie is released, it will send a message to EON once and for all, that the sacred trust of Ian Fleming’s iconic hero James Bond belongs not to them, but to all of the James Bond fans across the globe!”
Well! Hmmmmmm, we are talking about a spy movie hero right? I think I can remember a similar uproar when Sandy-haired Roger Moore took over for Sean Connery after the very short flirtation with George Lazenby. The only difference? We didn’t have the internet or blogging to bitch and gripe on. Somehow Bond survived to this day, and probably will out-live most of us, even with a blonde-haired Craig.

They ditched Sean Connery? Those bastards!

I have enjoyed the work of several actors who have portrayed the iconic super-spy hero James Bon. I thought Sean Connery was the epitome of the character, However, I also enjoyed the work of Moore, Dalton, and particularly Brosnan.
I like that they have changed actors on occasion, as each has brought something of value to the table.
That said, I have to regretfully add, that I think Daniel Craig, is terribly miscast. Neither is he very handsome in a suave sort of way, or bringing much to the character. He would have served much better in my humble opinion, as one of the galaxy of villains.
Sorry Daniel, you just don’t do it for me. I don’t mean you aren’t a good actor. On the contrary, I think you are very accomplished. Just not as James Bond.

Could not disagree more with the CraigNotBond group. First, Craig is the reboot Bond, so the character is still in his getting-to-be-suave stage (but getting there).
Second, Brosnan for me always looked too concerned with his own looks to play a realistic Bond. Basically just a shade up from Roger Moore, he was still better than Dalton whose effete mannerism made him a most unconvincing Bond.
I’d even put Craig up above Connery, but only because the films of old lacked the hard realism of the last two (watching the Connery’s fight scenes makes one cringe, although his later movies, where they dispensed with the “chop to the neck” move, were a little better).
Oddly enough I don’t think Craig has the range as an actor the others do, but for me that works for this character and this reboot.
