“Invasion” Gets KO’d In Six

February 2, 2006 By Kyle Nin 3 Comments

The slow-paced Shaun Cassidy scifi creation Invasion is being put in the back of the top shelf of ABC’s closet in about six weeks from now in order to make room for a new mid-season crime drama called “The Evidence.”

As early as 3 weeks ago ABC execs were touting their faith in the show and vowing to stick with it. Whether this remains to be the case or not only some time will tell. Until then the last episode of Invasion before it’s unscheduled hiatus will be shown near the end of March.

    FYI,

This is mainly a mid-season move that isn’t entirely unexpected. In the press releases, ABC indicated the show would be returning after the run of the The Evidence.

Although The Evidence supposedly has produced 13 episodes, ABC is not planning on running all of them unless the show really takes off (like when Grey’s Anatomy displaced Boston Legal last season).

The real news in that release is the absence of any mention of Alias, which was supposed to come back in March to end its run. ABC has still not commented on that…

Yes, “The Evidence” is slated as a mid-season replacement, but, the information we have also indicates that ABC is holding Invasion in the same category as NBC’s Surface – that being, the execs have a wait and see attitude, and Invasion’s return is not yet 100% guaranteed.

However, just as NBC is more than likely to return Surface (they’d be fools not to), I also believe that Invasion will be returning as well, albeit probably on a different night than Wednesday. ABC may put it up against Surface on Monday nights. The final decision for both shows has not been firmed either way as yet.

Once again, as in all things Hollywood, time will tell.

I really hope that INVASION is renewed for the 2006-2007 season. It’s a good show. I like shows that are not predictable and that cause you to wonder. INVASION does just that. However, I (and most of the people I know) have no intention of watching EVIDENCE. I will watch something else. There are enough forensic shows on TV and far too many LAW & ORDER spin offs to satisfy me. Enough already. If the ABC executives are as bright as they think they are, they will bring back INVASION and keep in in the Wednesday 10:00 PM time slot.
