Frank Miller’s (Sin City) 300 is being brought to the silver screen. The graphic novel depicts the Greek/Spartan Battle of Thermopulae, circa 480 B.C.E., against the invading Persian Empire of King Xerxes.
Because it is an adaptation of Miller’s graphic novel there will be plenty of fantasy and action to go around.
The Spartan King Leonidas rallies his royal guard of 300 against the massive onslaught of thousands of Persia’s mightiest led by the Persian King Xerxes himself.
The gallantry shown by the Spartan 300 is the stuff of legend and a beautiful myth with elements of the truth behind the suicide mission, which was really a delaying ploy to give the Greek forces the time they needed to amass an army to fend off Xerxes’ invasion.
Zack Snyder (Dawn of the Dead) is set to direct. 300 will star Gerard Butler (The Phantom of the Opera) as the Spartan King Leonides, Andrew Pleavin (Batman Begins) as Daxos, Rodrigo Santoro (Love Actually) is King Xerxes, and in true Greek fashion, David Wenham (Van Helsing) acts as the story’s narrator.
The release date is yet to be announced.
