“Hoodwinked” has caught the imagination of America’s viewing public and is a killer at the box office. The animated feature that takes a skewed look at the old “Little Red Riding Hood” fable has been so successful in just two weeks at theaters, The Weinstein Company has already ordered up a sequel.
Co-producer/director Tony Leech wasn’t surprised by the reaction. “We have a lot of stuff we didn’t get to do in the first movie,” says Tony, “a lot of back story and subplots.” “We want it to be like the Terminator 2 of the franchise,” adds co-producer/director Todd Edwards.
Hoodwinked exceeded expectations over the weekend opening to $16.9M from 2,394 theaters for a surprising four-day average of $7,051. Hoodwinked does feature an impressive list of actors providing the character’s voices. They include Glenn Close, Jim Belushi, Anne Hathaway and Anthony Anderson. Reviews have been generally good. Can anyone say SHREK!
