Where Are They Now? And What Are They Doing?

December 5, 2005 By S. K. Sloan Leave a Comment

Alexander Siddig (Dr. Julian Bashir – STAR TREK: Deep Space Nine)

Next to Doctor Leonard McCoy from STAR TREK: The Original Series, Doctor Julian Bashir was the most popular doctor in the Star Trek universe.

The ladies liked Him for obvious reasons and the guys liked him because even though he was a super brillant physician and genius intellect, he was also just “one of the guys.”

Alexander Siddig was born in the Sudan in 1965, but was raised in England. His mother is the sister of veteran actor Malcom McDowell (Dr. Soran on STAR TREK: Generations), so we know which side of the family his acting chops come from. His paternal Uncle was the Sudanese Prime Minister.

As a bit of trivia, Siddig was originally wanted for the role of Captain Benjamin Sisko on DS9 but was thought to be too young to pull it off.

But what is Alexander Siddig up to these days?

In March of 2005 he co-starred opposite Kim Cattrall (Lt. Valeris on STAR TREK VI: The Undiscovered Country) in the West End Theater production of “Whose Life Is It Anyway?”

In Ridley Scott’s monumental undertaking about the 12th Century crusades in Jerusalem called “Kingdom of Heaven,” Siddig plays the role of Nasir. In the intriquing political thriller “Syrianna” (out in theaters now) he plays opposite George Clooney and Matt Damon.

Alexander is currently on location shooting “The Last Legion,” a film set in the crumbling Roman Empire. In this one he stars with Colin Firth and Sir Ben Kingsley.

Finally, as if he wasn’t busy enough, Siddig is currently in pre-production for the Agatha Christie TV Series “Poirot: Cards on the Table.”
