SERENITY Rumors Run Amok
It seems our reporting of the Film Force rumor that Serenity may come back in some TV format has hit a nerve and started a ‘Firefly’ (pun intended) of reports of their own.
Other net outlets have picked up on this including Moviehole.net, Rotten Tomatoes and Brollywood.net out of Vancover B.C.
And finally, our own Summer Brooks sent me this bit of rehashed information from the Arizona Browncoats, and while it is a repeat of what was voiced above, it does have its own interesting slant which I found intriquing.
“IGN’s information is worthless as far as I’m concerned. They give all this information from an unnamed source and then say that everyone involved has denied it. Pointless rumors. However, this one comes a little closer from the source and earns my respect by saying up front how unofficial his information is. For those under a rock, a studio publicist from Universal told his buddy with a blog (An intentional leak? Time will tell) that Universal inevitably won’t be handing Serenity a sequel for the big screen, but is considering budgeting a TV Movie or Miniseries for the Scifi Channel. Logically that’s a genius step. Can’t get enough people to go to theaters to see a full budget flick, but there are PLEANTY of fans to justify a major cable event like this, not to mention an easy access opportunity for new fans to check it out. It won’t be anywhere near Serenity’s budget, but it will look better than the series (think Peacekeeper Wars)… and I’m fine with that. Joss and Zoic have a way of making something look like it’s got twice the budget. So take all this with a grain of salt, Joss and the cast still have to agree to it, and really there’s not that much reason to believe there’s any truth more than gossip here, but this may be the early chatter of a really big deal.”
Besides Summer, I would like to thank John Tankersley for keeping us up-to-date on the follow-up to this ongoing Serenity saga.
