Uncle Sam Reviews “Star Wars: Conspiracy”

September 24, 2005 By S. K. Sloan Leave a Comment

Fan film “Star Wars: Conspiracy” is a chilling reminder of what can happen when a dictatorial regime, lacking a moral center, begins to decide the ultimate fate of those they deem less-than-worthy of existence.

The entire film is set in an office conference room where eleven of the Emperor’s highest military and civilian officals have gathered to discuss the disposition of the millions of non-human species throughout the Galactic Empire.

Sitting around a table, as if in a routine business meeting, these officials are determined to institute the Emperor’s “final solution” against all non-aligned worlds.

This event takes place ten years before the battle of Yavin and the rebel forces are just beginning to get some support from a few disheartened members of the Galactic Senate.

The discussions made at this meeting alter the course of galactic affairs for years to come and lay the foundation for the world into which Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia Organa will eventually be born as exiles and hunted rebels by Darth Vader and the Emperial Fleet.

Watching the short film sent a cold chill through me as it reminded me of the real conspiratory meetings that took place between Adolph Hitler’s head executioner Adolph Eichmann and the top military brass of the Nazi regime as they too sat around a conference table and decided the fate of over 10 million Jews, homosexuals and handicapped.

I am vividly reminded of something Captain Jean Luc Picard of Star Trek: The Next Generation said to Worf when he saw those same seeds being spread and planted from within the Federation hierarchy. “Mr. Worf, just when we think we have laid this beast to rest, it rears its ugly head again….” The watchword and cost of real freedom in the world is VIGILANCE!

On the Uncle Sam scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 2 for cinematic production design but a 5 for keeping before a new and younger audience, (far removed from our own history of this kind of event), the importance of staying awake and exposing the ugly beast of prejudice and totalitarianism.
