Lionsgate will adapt James Halperin’s sci-fi thriller “The Truth Machine” for the big screen. Variety reports Ron Shusett and George Lee Marshall will adapt the novel.
Violence is at an all-time high and the crime issue has become the the political hot potato. With Congress passing the Swift and Sure Anti-Crime Bill, Americans have been promised that all convicted violent criminals will receive one fair trial, one quick appeal, then one quick execution. However, in order to prevent the innocent from being convicted and the guilty slipping through the cracks in the law, a truth finding machine, using sophisticated computer software, is created to detect lies perfectly at 100 percent accuracy.
Randall Peter Armstrong, the creator of this “Truth Machine” promises to change the face of crime and how it is battled. But events force him to commit a trecherous crime of his own in order to finish his goal. And now he must try and conceal this act from his own creation or face swift trial and execution.
Shusett and Marshall who are joining forces to adapt the book for the screen have worked together on several past film projects and have jointly written about six screen scripts.
Shusett may be remembered by sci-fi fans as the co-writer for the story to Alien vs. Predator, as well as co-writing and producing Total Recall. He also shared credits as the Executive Producer of Steve Spielberg’s “Minority Report.”
Lionsgate has not announced a shoot date as of this printing.
