J.J. Abrams, going boldly where others have gone before, has tagged Star Trek‘s Karl Urban to star in the new Fox drama pilot Human.
The show is being penned by Fringe colleague J.H. Wyman and is a futuristic buddy cop action show where LAPD human officers are partnered with human-like androids.
The role of John Kennex, who will be played by Urban, is a well regarded, respected but emotionally withdrawn police officer, after being critically injured following a mission on the field. His android partner is Dorian, played by Michael Ealy, and has a better understanding of humanity than Kennex.
Other cast members include Minka Kelly of Friday Night Lights, Lili Taylor
from Six Feet Under, Michael Irby from The Unit, and Pirates of the Caribbean‘s Mackenzie Crook.
Urban will be seen again as Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in Abrams’ upcoming Star Trek Into Darkness, and is arguably best known in fandom as Éomer in The Lord Of The Rings.
