Universal’s decision to mothball their big-screen version of Monopoly hasn’t daunted Hasbro.
The game company is reportedly pursuing big-screen versions of not only Monopoly but also Hungry Hungry Hippos.
The company has signed a deal with Emmett/Furla, a production banner run by co-founders Randall Emmett and George Furla, to finance and co-produce three movies in the next two years. That includes Monopoly, Hasbro’s version of G.I. Joe with Action Man and Hungry Hungry Hippos.
Hasbro has had a hit and miss record with big-screen adaptations of toy lines and games. Transformers has turned into a solid franchise while Battleship sank at the box office.

Why don’t they just go ahead and make a movie out of the My Little Pony brand. It’s owned by hasbro and is more likely to sell than… these. Honestly, what are they thinking, Monopoly, seriously, why not Cluedo.

I think I have another homework assignment for Brian: make a list of all the games and brands Hasbro owns, and order that list by which property will have a movie rumor about it next.
And maybe we could even start some of those rumors… look how much fun we had with the Frogger and Joust movie rumblings!

I heard that the Hippos are going to be a La Traviata scale opera. Imagine Jada Pinkit Smith voicing a more serious role from her Gloria in Madagascar portraying a Carmen hippo if you will. It will be big, costumes, sets, the script, everything will be huge. I can’t wait to hear Hungry hungry Hippo Opus number Four “Ad Manducandum Marmore” (to eat marble).

Didn’t Robot Chicken already do the HHH movie by turning it into a vigilante revenge movie trailer?
