New producer Glen Mazarra has dropped a few tidbits about what fans can look for as the second season of The Walking Dead staggers onto our screens.
Mazarra says that the series will continue to use the graphic novels as inspiration for certain stories and characters. Among those is the storyline that takes place on Hershel’s farm.
What’s been surprising is that in the graphic novel, the story that takes place on Hershel’s farm is really only a few issues,” Mazzara told the official AMC blog. “We’ve been able to mine that for many episodes, and we’re very excited about the depth to which we’re able to push the characters [and] the different dynamics that we’re able to explore.”
But things won’t go well for the Hershel family when Rick and his crew show up.
“Nothing goes right for Hershel once Rick and his band show up,” he explained. “They make the zombie apocalypse look like kids in a candy store.”
He added that viewers may end up siding with Hershel rather than Rick and his group.
“What’s interesting is that if this was a show solely about Hershel, Rick and his band would really be the antagonists,” he suggested. “That’s been really surprising because every action that Rick and his band take is completely logical, but you’ll certainly sympathize with Hershel.”
