Director George Lucas says that there are already 50 hours of the live-action Star Wars tv show filmed and waiting for post-production.
That may lead you to wonder just when the series is going to debut.
Seems it may not be for a good while yet. Lucas tells G4 that the footage filmed for the TV show is waiting for a new way of movie-making.
Lucas hopes to find a way to cut the price tag for movie-making and he plans to test that out with the series. Lucas wants to bring the same quality from the movies to the television series, only at a more affordable price. Lucas says a team is working on it, but that until they get to that point the price tag for the series will be too high.
Mungai says
He never said that the 50 hours was filmed he just said he had 50 hours on the shelf. Based on what he has said about the show in the past I’m sure he meant that as 50 hours worth of stories already written out. Even George Lucas isn’t stupid enough to film 50 hours for a show that won’t be made for years (if ever).
Morgothik says
I expect he has 50 hours worth of spaceships and landscapes. You could burn up 50 hours very quickly on test footage.

^ except that first sentence of this article clearly says: “Director George Lucas says that there are already 50 hours of the live-action Star Wars tv show FILMED and WAITING for post-production.”
filmed… and waiting post… definetly crazy news.
Jayson says
That would mean he has at least two seasons filmed if they are going for a 24 episode season. Or four seasons if they were going for a 13 episode season, yeah I don’t think so. I’m sure he has 50 hours worth of something shot but I seriously doubt he even close to finishing one season, 24 or 13 episodes.

50 hours doesn’t mean 50 episodes. With multiple takes and footage that will be cut for time 50 hours could come down to just 3 or 4 episodes. but then again as someone said it could just be 50 hours worth of spaceships and landscapes, there may not even be any scripts written or actors signed
Sean Jordan says
I produced this interview and I think some of you are misunderstanding his comments… He has 50 hours written, developed, and ready to go, but is working on tech to make filming these affordable.

Yeah, I expect it’s nowhere near anything like full episodes if he’s waiting for “a new way of filming.” If it is actually footage, it’s most likely test footage of people and locations that he can tinker around with and add CGI to. Oh, that George.
Jayson says
Here’s a radical idea George, try and tell a good story and use your special effects to aid the story and in that order.
ALibertarian says
Jayson! Good idea.

That’s just the way Lucas is. He’s the Geeky kid Film maker. He wants to do something that can’t be done so he focuses on developing Technology before the film and then, after he builds the system to do the job, then he works on the film. He did it for StarWars, Empire, Jedi. Then many years later, created Jar Jar, then bastardized his own films. Just goes to show maybe Kurzwiel was right. Technology isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.
Jayson says
First of all, thanks ALibertarian and secondly why isn’t story the priority here? I admit, I love visual effects because ultimately televsion and film are visual mediums but if you don’t have a good story or interesting characters, the special effects aren’t all that special.
