After months of rumors and speculation, a half dozen or so actresses are on director Christopher Nolan’s short list for a role in the upcoming production of “The Dark Knight Rises.”
For months, we’ve heard rumors of every up and coming young actress in Hollywood being linked to the role, but today the Hollywood Reporter gives us the list of those who are in the running and will have casting calls with the director.
They are: Keira Knightley, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Beil, Kate Mara, Charlotte Riley and Gemma Arterton.
The trade paper indicates that Arterton could be a long-shot for the film due to her landing one of the lead roles in “Hansel and Gretel.” Production on that film could create a conflict with the Batman sequel.
Reports indicate that “Rises” needs to fill two lead female roles–one of a villain and one of a love interest. Sources say one character is Talia, the daughter of villain Ra’s Al Ghul, who was portrayed by Liam Neeson in Nolan’s first superhero movie, “Batman Begins”. In the comic books, Talia is both Batman’s lover and antagonist, ultimately siring his alter ego Bruce Wayne’s son.
Sources on-line have been reporting that Naomi Watts and Eva Green have been cast in the roles. Those stories have been denied by those associated with the project. Watts has the interest of producers but has been unable to meet with them due to her current work on ” The Impossible.” However, she could be available for “Rises” if it begins shooting in May as Nolan would like to do.
Green is also tied up with another project and has reportedly not met with producers.

Really? She… SIRED his son? I kinda doubt that, seeing as that would make her the father. 😉
