December 15, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

Actor Mekhi Phifer, best known for his work as Dr. Gant on “ER,” has joined the cast of “Torchwood.”

Phifer will play CIA agent Rex Matheson, who’s described as “a fast-tracked high flyer with a lethal sense of humor who starts to feel his mortality when his life is put in danger.”

The new series of “Torchwood” begins production early next year and will air on Starz.

But it’s on Starz? Well, guess I won’t be seeing it then.

Cool. I like Mekhi, and he’s well suited to the character description.

(He played Dr. Pratt on ER, though. Gallant was played by Sharif Atkins, who’s on White Collar these days. [/nitpick])

Mekhi is an excellent addition to Torchwood. He was superb in ER and Lie To Me.
