It’s hard to recall that once upon a time, Fox canceled “Family Guy.”
But they did. And it was thanks to huge ratings on Cartoon Network and DVD sales that the series came back and has been a staple of the Fox schedule ever since. It’s led to two more animated series from creator Seth McFarlane on the network.
So, with all the success Fox is enjoying from the “Guy” empire, it’s easy to see why the network would be eager to keep as many of those involved with its creation happy. And that includes the voices behind the characters.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has offered Alex Borstein a development deal for two new series. The deal calls for her to write, develop and produce the two series and includes the potential for her to have an on-screen role as well.
“She’s one of the most multitalented people in our business, whether voice-over work, acting, singing,” 20th chairman Gary Newman said. “Sometimes we tend to ignore what’s in our own backyard, and we’ve had Alex in our yard for a long time, and she just is very gifted.”
“She really has a persona and attitude that comes through and is funny and edgy and a little dark, and we really believe she could be the center of a show,” Newman said.
The studio has made a talent holding deal that would allow for other writers to develop projects for Borstein and for the studio to cast her into an existing project.
