After two years of being in development, the Jim Henson Company’s “Happytown Murders” has found a studio home and is moving forward. Lionsgate Studio gave the green light for the Brian Henson (son of Jim) directed movie yesterday according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The project will combine human actors and puppets in a world where the two co-exist. but puppets are treated as second-class citizens. When the puppet cast of an ’80s children’s TV show called “The Happytime Gang” begins to get murdered one by one, a disgraced LAPD detective-turned-private eye puppet — with a drinking problem, no less — takes on the case with his former human partner.
Todd Berger penned the script.
No word yet on when production will begin.
Jake from Indiana says
This kind of world and relationship between humans and puppets has been done before. It’s called “Greg the Bunny”.
John says
So, basically, Roger Rabbit with puppets…
Arkle says
This could be awesome. Note how I said “could be.” It could just as easily go horribly wrong.
Kit says
Jake…..Way before Greg the bunny the relationship was already set in motion by Brian Henson’s father Jim Henson (The Muppets) If you go back and watch the muppets there is actually quite well worked in Adult content so that it was a family show……
