As “V” heads into the home stretch of its freshman season, it appears the loyalties of several major characters may be changing.
Two characters thought to be firmly on the side of the Visitors may find themselves siding with the Fifth Column resistance group as the season goes along. One of them is reporter Chad Dekker, played by Scott Wolf.
“We start to see a Chad Dekker who has his better senses telling him that it’s time to start paying attention to what might really be going on,” Wolf tells TVGuide.com.
“Once his skepticism and fear take hold, he has to figure out where to go because he can’t just run away from the Visitors, but he also can’t keep running in the dark. He is really playing both sides, waiting to see who’s going to win.”
“He starts being pulled in the direction of the resistance,” Wolf continues. “When it happens, it feels right. It doesn’t feel like we just jammed two characters together because it’s fun to watch. It feels like you’ve been waiting for that moment to happen.”
Another resistance fighter could come from closer to home for the Visitors’–Anna’s daughter, Lisa.
“Lisa doesn’t necessarily know her mother’s plans, so she is following blindly,” actress Laura Vandervoort tells TVGuide.com. “Maybe when she discovers her mother’s plans, she’ll change her mind. She really is stuck to her mother. Her mother is all-powerful and can take her out in a second if she really wants to, so Lisa has to be careful. For all Lisa knows, the Vs do come in peace.”
Though Lisa will turn toward the resistance, it’s in a highly different capacity. “She does get a chance to talk to Tyler’s mother and tries to, perhaps, get Erica [Elizabeth Mitchell] to like her to better their plans. At the same time, she’s getting to know Erica and discovering what it is to have a human mother and how different that is from a V mother.”
Wolf went on to say that fans will know what Anna’s plan is by the time we reach the season finale.
“By the end of the second chapter of episodes, the audience will have a really clear idea of why they’re there,” says Wolf.
“V” airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
Decker’s “neutrality” has been one of the more interesting aspects of the show; he *knows* they’re not as kosher as they claim, but doesn’t necessarily think they’re bad, but he wants to know more… it’s an interesting internal back-and-forth that Wolf plays very well.
As for Lisa turning, that’s been an obvious one since the beginning. They’re going for a power of love, “what is this Earth thing you call ‘going at it like rabbits’?” arc or else I’ll eat my hat.
Do you really think that Lisa has feelings for Tyler? I just figured that she was faking it, just like how her mother and the other Visitors do (with emotions, in general, I mean). Everything they do with Tyler is part of their plan. But what that plan is remains to be seen. (I’m figuring it can’t be good, though.)
Again, I’ve got to go with the who cares camp. Just get this show off the air and let’s get back to some better scifi. I’m not of the camp that any scific is good. V isn’t earning a 2nd season.
