Next “Star Trek” Has a Release Date

January 11, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

You can’t Fandango tickets for it yet, but you can at least reserve the date on your calendar.

Paramount has booked the next “Star Trek” installment for theaters on June 29, 2012.

Assuming we all survive the end of the Mayan calendar, fans can line up for the next installment of the rebooted franchise then. The studio has hoped for a two-year turnaround for a sequel following the pattern of “Iron Man” and “Transformers” but that hasn’t proved feasible for all the parties involved.

Until then, fans can relive “Star Trek” on DVD and Blu Ray and get a new novel about the rebooted universe later this year from Alan Dean Foster.

Of course, the joke is somewhat ruined by the fact the Mayan calendar ends in December 2012, and June 2012 is in fact before that.

I can’t wait. I’d like to see them answer the question as to why the Klingons suddenly formed ridges on their heads at some point in the future.
