“Torchwood” Renewed for full 4th Season

“Torchwood” Renewed for full 4th Season

December 15, 2009 By Sam Sloan 7 Comments

Jolly good news for”Torchwood” fans, the show will be returning for a full 13-episode fourth season on the BBC according to a recent interview with the show’s star John Barrowman (Captain Jack Harkness). In the BBC interview Barrowman was quoted as stating indefatigably, “Most definitely, Torchwood will come back to the BBC.”

Many fans have had their doubts about the future of the show since last season’s mini-series, “Torchwood: Children of Earth,” blatantly killed off everyone except Jack and Gwen, with her and her husband in tow, leaving Torchwood to have a proper family and Jack, due to serious guilt over a major past sin, leaving Earth for what seemed to be for good.

With all that behind them the plot for season four will be interesting indeed and leaves fans with a ton of questions like ‘are we likely to see a whole crop of new faces and personalities joining the Captain? ‘Will he join up with the new Doctor Who (Matt Smith)?’ ‘Will Gwen chuck the family-life and hubby to reunite with Jack?’ Or, ‘Will we be treated to a “Star Trek” kind of reboot that allows for the return of Lanto, Owen and Toshiko?’ No one knows for sure at this point, not even Barrowman. Concerning his possible reunion with the regenerated Doctor, Barrowman told the BBC, “I don’t know about Captain Jack’s future in ‘Doctor Who,’ because nothing has been said or I haven’t been asked.” “I’m kind of prepared that I won’t be in any of it, which is fine,” added Barrowman.

This makes the third time this news has been “broken” for me. Not that I’m any less appreciative.

Good to have confirmation finally. Now here’s hoping they can create a new ensemble that’s as strong as the one they’ve killed off. ::crosses fingers for Martha and Micky::

There has been no official news from the BBC. This is from an interview a month or so ago in which John Barrowman says it more like he hopes it will be back, or that it must come back in his opinion. RTD also is quoted talking about having ideas for scripts ready to push out. However, until there is a press release, this is not a confirmation.

I can see a possibility of Martha and Mickey, I can see Gwen and that kind-of potato-headed husband of her, but Doctor Who has never in it’s long history brought people back to life without consequences. Consequences that are almost always seen as being bad. Had you watched the actual show. The series, being a spin-off to Doctor Who, is no stranger to a series of rotating doors for actors and actresses.

And it’s The Doctor, not Doctor Who.
