NBC’s “Heroes” is promising that a major character will die by the end of the season, according to E! Online’s Kristen Dos Santos.
No, really, they mean it this time.
If you’re skeptical, you have good reason to be. The show has promised a major death since the mid-point of season one and, as of yet, hasn’t really delivered it. Oh sure, people have died but they’ve never stayed dead too long.
The death could be an attempt by the show to win back viewers. It would be only the latest in a series of easily-promotable stunts to win back eyeballs to the struggling show. This week, the show featured Claire’s female roommate kissing her in a moment that was teased all during the summer and in week leading up to the episode airing.
Dos Santos reports that the death will be one of the characters who has been with the show since the beginning. She also says the death will be a leading male character. No hints on when this may occur, but it’s probable it could occur during November sweeps.
Say goodbye to Ando. I can see it now …. it’s a beautiful day in Tokyo with the birds chirping, bees buzzing and flowers everywhere at Ando’s big wedding day to Hiro’s sister. Suddenly, Hiro is overtaken by one of his fits and disappears sometime in the time vortex with only Ando’s head in his hands while the rest of his body is left spewing blood from the headless orifices at the alter with an aghast crowd of onlookers.
Hey! It could happen. Stranger things have taken place on this show.
“Major Death”? Well, call me Captain Improbable. I’m thinking that Sergeant Sickly and Lieutenant Lethargy have been in control too long for me to care.
Sorry, Heroes, you lost me at Season 2.
Ando? Nah. He’s not a “major” character.

Heroes lost me after it’s first episode this season. Never thought I’d stop watching but the boredom level finally went critical.

This season of “Heroes” is proof that the writers’ strike has not ended.
last show on DVR… It is going to stay there. I don’t have time or the care to watch it.
I’ll keep recording it in cast something happens I need to see, but yeah.
*Yawn…..* This show had it’s chance and is now dead to me.
As great an actress Hayden is, and as great a Character Claire is;
Kill the Cheerleader, save the Show.
Bad-Arse Hiro came from a future with no Claire, and Evil HRG is a much more engaging character than Noah Bennett. The Death of Claire could put the show back on the rails.
Considering that Hiro becomes a bigger doofus with each passing season, kill him. Or Parkman, because no one really cares about him. Oh hell, take out two birds with one stone and kill the Nathan/Syler amalgam.
Aw, just nuke the entire show.
You know the “major death” will be someone completely lame like Mother Petrelli.
There are enough threads in the story now that they could go a couple of ways with it. The frontrunner is probably Hiro, since he’s already sick (though that could be a red herring that’ll be deus ex machina’ed away during sweeps week or something). Second most likely is “Nathan Petrelli,” since it seems unlikely that the Parkman/Sylar situation will be allowed to continue much longer. Ando is a possibility only because it will foster growth in Hiro’s character (should he himself survive). Parkman is a possibility as a consequence of the Sylar situation (I don’t see Sylar letting him just walk away if he gets what he wants). Noah Bennett is a long shot because of his overall positioning in the story, but not out of the question. I don’t think it’ll be Peter Petrelli because I think he’s one of the few characters the writers had long-term plans in mind for.
Of the remaining male characters who’ve been around since the beginning, that just leaves Sylar, Suresh, and Micah. Sylar is out because he’s the Big Bad of the show (and probably their most interesting character to boot). They’re not likely to kill Micah because a) he’s still a kid, and b) they’ve invested too much into the whole “Rebel” persona in the extra materials. That just leaves Suresh, and because he hasn’t contributed much to the story lately, killing his character doesn’t seem to carry the same impact as one of the others. I suppose you could throw the Haitian into the mix, but he’s really more of a plot device than an actual character.
is this show worth picking up again?
Emily, at this point, it’s the only show on NBC that’s even remotely worth watching. That said, the show is nowhere near the quality of the first season. At the same time, it’s not nearly as bad as the third season was. There’s something there.
Ok, there’s Peter. He’s pretty much the reason I keep watching, bringing the eye candy. With Hiro nothing but a shadow of what he was, and no other eye candy on the show, it’s down to just Peter. Once he’s gone, the show’s dead.
And, according to EW.com, it is Milo. He got the pink slip in his script this week, and they’re now filming his last episode.
Figures.
To me, Peter’s the one person they shouldn’t kill off. He was the one who drew us into the Heroes universe, and made it easy to explore the nature of these abilities that were cropping up. Combined with the innocent joy and wonder Hiro had figuring out his powers, that was the magic that made Season 1 such fun to watch.
A lot of people involved in creating this story have lost sight of most of what made this show the breakout hit it was its first season. I have Season 1 on DVD, and that’s all I’m ever going to own. I thought about tuning in to see who was going to be killed off and why, but now they’ve completely lost me.
Emily – in a word, no. Rent it on DVD if you really are bored IMHO.
I love how people say “It’s not THAT bad….” that’s a REAL ringing endorsement! HAHAHAAHAHAH!
You know when Heroes started out it had a good trajectory: Save the Cheerleader Save the World. Bad Syler with Peter being his just as super-powered (but opposite). A guy who could paint the future (where has that all gone?).
Now Syler has lost his memory, Claire is now got a college lesbian roomate lover “crushing on” her. Peter is switching powers left & right. Peter’s mother is now just a worry-wort. And Hiro is now essentially trying to figure out what he wants to do with his power before it kills him.
Is this all a bit of a mess now? Where the hell is this show headed? I can see now how they are making up as they go and why fans are tuning out.
You know– Whats with the “Carnival” theme? Its as if they are trying to summon the spirits from HBO’s series. This show is definitely suffering from poor development and story lines. It is such a far cry from the original season. This is what happens when they don’t know when the show is going to ‘end’. The story just wanders around aimlessly. What is the underlying human message of this season?
The major death? The show itself. Bye Bye Heroes.
I’m with Kurt. I saw the headline and thought it meant death to Heroes. Not death to a hero. Oh well. Enjoy it if you’re watching it.
So, if they kill off Peter, who will be around in the season finale to stop Sylar?
As we’ve seen the past three seasons, Peter is the only one who can….
I imagine it won’t happen, but I think they should permanently kill Sylar. I think it would break the show out of many of the dead-ends it’s been written into and allow new villians, challenges and story lines to surface without drawing us back into the Sylar debacle.
If not Sylar then Hiro. His character deserves better than what is getting written for him. Better to let the character rest in peace then make a mockery of his potential.
Gary, I think its too late to save Heroes but I agree with you about Sylar (and Hiro). Last season I thought it would be a bold move to get rid of Sylar, something that could help breathe some new life into the show. Cut off played out story lines and form new alliances to fight a new villain, Evil Claire.
I got so tired of the cheerleader; she wanted to be a badass but her major talent is she can get beatup, a lot. Other then making her a fun date for Chris Brown her talent wasn’t very interesting. With a little plot-onium I think her character could have been transformed into something far more compelling and fun to watch. Unfortunetely, I think its far too late now to save this show.
