“Meatballs” Reigns at Box Office

September 21, 2009 By Michael Hickerson 1 Comment

The animated movie, “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” took home the gold at the box-office this weekend.

The family-friendly movie opened with $30.1 million, according to studio estimates from Nielsen EDI.  That figure eclipsed Hollywood expert’s forecasts by $10 million.

Matt Damon’s new movie, “The Informant” was a distant second with $10.5 million in box office receipts.

“Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself” dropped to third place, taking $10.1 million and lifting its total to $37.9 million.

The Jennifer Aniston comedy “Love Happens” was fourth $8.4 million.

Coming in fifth with a disappointing $6.8 million on its opening weekend was the Megan Fox led “Jennifer’s Body.” Some in Hollywood expected it to make twice that mount on its opening weekend.
