Blizzard Working on ‘Broad Appeal” MMO

Blizzard Working on ‘Broad Appeal” MMO

September 17, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

With sequels to “Diablo” and “Starcraft” causing fans to salivate with excitement, game maker Blizzard says that it wants reach out to a wider audience with its next massively multiplayer online game.

Speaking Monday at the Deutsche Bank Securities Technology Conference in San Francisco, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick predicted the game will reach more players than Blizzard’s Starcraft and Diablo franchises, according to Gamespot.

“What we’ve announced at Blizzard is that we have Starcraft (II) coming, Diablo (III) has been in production,” Kotick said, “and a new, unannounced MMOG that has a little more broad appeal.”

There aren’t many details known about the game at this time, except that it’s being worked on by former World of Warcraft game director Jeff Kaplan.

No word yet on if or when beta copies of the game will be made available or when the game might go on sale. We’ll keep our eyes open and let you know more when we hear it.

I’m a little scared of what Blizzard means by “broad appeal” since WoW already has 11M+ players. 11 Million seems pretty broad to me

    I know what it is!

Its an MMO version of Spongebob Squarepants. Now that will have broad appeal, for about 5 minutes.

It must be an American Idol MMO.

I think its going to be the World of World of Warcraft. In WoWoW you play a computer gamer who is playing WoW. If you don’t know what I am talking about find the video on TheOnion.com

Blizzard has proven to have the entire Fantasy based mmo on lock down. Others like Warhammer and even the newer Aeon aren’t proving to be competition. What they are most likely looking for is something to pull in the Sci-fi junkies of the world with out being as out there as a Starcraft MMO would be.
