“Terminator: Salvation” DVD Will Be R-Rated Cut

August 28, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 5 Comments

If you were waiting to see the R-rated version of “Terminator: Salvation,” you’ll get your chance when the movie hits DVD and Blu-Ray later this year.

IGO Reports that the MPAA has cleared an R-rated version that is different from the theatrical release.  The disc will be a “director’s cut” of the film, though it’s not yet known how exactly this version will differ.

Also there is no word yet on if there will be a “director’s cut” and a “theatrical cut” of the film released.

As soon as we know more, we’ll bring you details right here on Slice of SciFi.

Why is it that recently “Director’s Cut” is synonymous with “Cut We Should Have Released In The Theatres And Is A Much Better Movie”?

Frankly, they never should have cut the topless scene (and not for the reasons you think… hehe). If the topless scene was included, the next line in the movie “We’ve been watching you” actually would have made sense, and the skip from scene to scene wouldn’t have been so jarring. Even some sort of compensation for the missing material (eg. a shaky-cam perspective shot showing that they were being watched) would have helped. It wouldn’t have been as much fun as the topless scene, but it would have helped the flow and logic of the movie make sense. Instead, we see Moon Bloodgood and the terminator together in one scene, and the next second they’re separated and he has to save her. Terrible.

McG was actually pushing hard to get an R rating and the film company really wanted it lower rated to allow more audience.

Adding the topless scene back may help that part of the movie but it would take a major re-write of the script; and probably a different director, to fix the total mess that was Terminator Salvation.

I do not care either way, if this little scene can make or break this movie it could not have been a good movie. I stayed away as I felt we were being taken for another useless ride.
