Zombies Coming to “Medium”

Zombies Coming to “Medium”

August 4, 2009 By News Droid 2 Comments

For the upcoming season of “Medium,” creator and producer Glenn Gordon Caron wants to have Patricia Arquette’s Allison Dubois face a new kind of threat–zombies.

No, they’re not changing the premise of the series mid-stream.  Instead, the series will borrow footage from the horror classic, “Night of the Living Dead” for its Halloween episode.  According to Caron, the episode will digitally insert Arquette into the black and white footage from the horror movie.

“It’s going to be the landscape of her dreams in that particular episode,” Caron told SciFi Wire. “It’s actually the vestige of an idea I had back in ‘Moonlighting’. We bought the rights to this old AIP movie, ‘Mothra vs. Godzilla’. We were going to matte Bruce and Cybill into it. We never got around to it. This year we actually got the rights to the original ‘Night of the Living Dead’, and we’re going to insert Patricia into it.”

The idea gets the thumbs-up from series’ star Arquette, who said, “I was so excited about it, because I love that movie.”

“When I was a teenager, it was kind of like you start breaking away from the establishment and your parents, you find these jewels,” she added. “After school, it’d be on at a weird time. [You’d escape from] the hot California sun watching this weird movie. Also, I started out in horror films, ‘Nightmare on Elm Street 3’. I love a good monster movie. I’m here in a monster show. I’m the monster, but it’s exciting.”

Of course, getting to the Halloween episode means that “Medium” will have to resolve the cliffhanger that ended last season. The cliffhanger found Allison in a coma. Caron promises that this storyline will be resolved in the season premiere and that he’s working on mapping out episodes for the upcoming season.

“We mix it up,” he said. “Ours is a show that we really try to leave ourselves open to the possibilities that come along as opposed to locking ourselves in with a game plan, particularly because we have three young people who are constantly growing.”

“Medium” returns on September 25 on CBS.

Oh dangit! I wanted to wait for the series to start again before finding out if the MAIN CHARACTER would wake up from a coma. Thanks for spoiling this totally obvious bit of plot. 🙂
