Morgan Signs as Story Director for “Wheel of Time” Games

August 4, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

Veteran Hollywood screenwriter Chris Morgan has been tapped by Red Eagle Games to be the upcoming story director for their “Wheel of Time” video games according to Variety.   The games, based on the best-selling fantasy series by Robert Jordan, are currently in the development stage with no specific time line announced for when the games might be hitting stores.

Morgan will be part of an advisory board on the games to help ensure their quality, Variety reports.

Morgan’s previous screenwriting credits include “Cellular,” “Wanted,” and the last two installments in “The Fast and the Furious” franchise.

Red Eagle will develop the game, which will be distributed by Electronics Art.   It’s reported that Red Eagle plans to create an online multiplayer game set in the universe of the novels, but other details are unknown.

The games are part of a multi-media strategy to bring the popular fantasy series to new platforms.   In addition to the game, a separate movie adaptation for the best-selling novels is also planned.

Didn’t somebody already make a WoT computer game seven or eight years ago? Or did that not make it out of beta? I remember seeing a version of it in college.

What are they going to be? A couple of screens of active play split up by hour long cutsceens where nothing happens?

Hmmm can’t say i’ve seen Cellular, but with a CV like Wanted and the Fast and the Furious, I can’t say i’m all that thrilled by this guy. I’m assuming then that the game will have more plot holes than you could drive a pack of Trollocs through?
