Apparently not with the news that Steven Speilberg has signed on to direct a remake of the 1950 classic “Harvey.”
The original starred Jimmy Stewart as a man who claims he talks to a six-foot tall rabbit that only he can see. The original version was based on a Pultizer-prize winning play.
Casting is set to begin soon and production will ramp up later this year. According to the Associated Press, the new version will be an update of the classic movie and play. No word yet on who would take over the role made famous by Stewart.
A release date hasn’t been set, but co-producers Dreamworks and 20th Century Fox hope to have in theaters in the winter of 2010.

OK. Fine. They’re remaking it. Nothing we can do about it, so here’s what I’d like to see:
1. Cast as Elwood P. Dowd: Tom Hanks
2. Cast as Harvey: NOBODY
3. No CGI/animated rabbits (never had ’em, doesn’t need ’em)
4. No Homages to the first film – I HATE when Hollywood does that. Especially when the new film can’t possibly live up to the magic of the original.

Do we remember the last time Spielberg made a great film? Yeah. Me, neither.
