“Transformers,” “G.I. Joe,” “Stretch Armstrong,” “ViewMaster.”
The list of toys turned into ovies could go on for days or even weeks. And now you can add Max Steel to the list of toys that is getting its own movie vehicle.
According to Variety, Paramount is teaming with producer Joe Roth for a movie based on the property, about a 19-year-old extreme sports junkie recruited by a secret agency after an accident infects his body with nanobots, making him superhuman.
The toy line was introduced to the world in 1999 and a spin-off animated series ran from 2000-02. Toy maker Mattel reports that while the Steel line isn’t a top-seller in the United States, it does have solid sales figures and is top-seller in others parts of the world, including Latin America. The company has continued the animated series in direct-to-DVD releases since it stopped production of the regular series in 2002 and the company feels that the time is right for a movie and to re-launch Steel to the United States market.
