Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams have teamed up again for a fourth installment in the big-screen “Mission: Impossible” franchise according to the Hollywood Reporter. Cruise and Abrams will serve as co-producers for the new film.
Whether the new film will be a sequel to the previous three and star Cruise or be a reboot of the franchise with a new star or stars has not yet been determined.
Abrams and Cruise worked together on the third installment in the franchise. And while the film was a hit, it failed to generate the world-wide revenue of the first two films in the franchise.
Though Abrams is not on board to direct the new “Impossible,” he and Cruise could reconceive it in a way that is closer to the ensemble approach of the TV series.

Abrams has been successful rebooting “Star Trek,” so I expect he’ll bring back “Mission: Impossible” from its low numbers on the third movie.

I’m not so sure about that. It was Abrams who directed and produced the 3rd one. But, JJ can pull some serious creative shite out of his hat when need be….Lost, Fringe and the Star Trek reboot are perfect examples of his genius.
