A strong Sunday box-office by “The Hangover” pushed it just past up for the weekend box office tally according to Variety.
The new movie took in $45 million at the theater, as opposed to the initially project figure of just over $43 million. The extra box-office boost helped push the film barely past Disney and Pixar’s up to claim the box-office crown for the weekend.
But “Up” wasn’t far behind. The animated feature took in $44.1 million for the weekend. In two weekeneds, “Up” has passed the $100 million mark at the box-office.
“Sunday’s performance on Sunday is a real indication that word of mouth has already started to propel to the movie to a point where we are going to have a big sleeper and long-running hit,” Warners prexy of domestic distribution Dan Fellman said.
Fellman said the film dropped only 12% from Saturday to Sunday, an unusually low decline.
