Fox Talking Deadpool Spin-Off

Fox Talking Deadpool Spin-Off

May 7, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

With the success of “Wolverine” at the box-office, 20th Century Fox is looking at a potential sequel to the film and spin-off films featuring some of the characters introduced in the latest “X-Men” installment.  First up is a spin-off film featuring Ryan Rynolds as Deadpool, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Reynolds is attached to reprise the character for what for now is simply being called “Deadpool.” Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel Studios would act as producers.

Deadpool is known as “the merc with a mouth,” a character that under Reynolds lived up to his billing in “Wolverine” until the end, when the movie deviated from the comic book persona, imbuing him with several superpowers and sewing his mouth shut.

It is understood that Reynolds would regain the ability to mouth off, with the movie going back to the roots of the character known for his slapstick tone and propensity to break the fourth wall. The character also was disfigured in “Wolverine,” though it’s unclear at this time how much the studio would want to mess with Reynolds’ handsome mug.

The studio is currently looking for a script for the film.

Halley-freaking-ula! It’s amazing how badly a movie can get a character. The whole point of deadpool is that he’s a smartarse mercenary who kills people for money while being batshit insane and breaking the 4th wall.

They might as well created a new character for all that was the travesty that was on Wolverine Origins. A fun action movie, but some incredibly dumb and misplaced cameos.

The treatment of Deadpool was the only thing about Wolverine I can say I hated, so I’m all for this. Even if it is Reynolds who I’m normally not a huge fan of. I mean, I don’t hate the guy, he’s been in some things I liked, I’m just sayin’ he’s not a favorite.

Give us a Gambit movie already. I wasn’t completely happy with his portrayal in Wolverine, but I saw enough to remind me how cool the character is. I mean, he throws cards and blows stuff up. Come on.

I am all for this. Though the Deadpool character portrayed in the last movie wasn’t right at all, personally I still loved what they did and how they did it. Ryan Rynolds was bad ass with a mouth and bad ass with it. In fact I think he was scarier with out his mouth. lol I think it will be an awesome movie. I’d see it, anyway.
