“Chuck” Fans Lobby for Third Season

“Chuck” Fans Lobby for Third Season

January 23, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 6 Comments

While “Chuck” has been creatively knocking it out of the park this year,  the all-important ratings haven’t exactly been a home run.  Faced with stiff competition from CBS’s comedy line-up and ABC’s reality series, “Chuck” has struggled this season in its timeslot.

Rumors of the series’ potential cancellation have begun to surface, leading some fans to create a preemptive petition to save the sophomore series.

NBC is currently looking to redefine itself, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The network has brought in a branding consultant firm to look at its demographics, audience, and other factors to determine what types of programming will make the cut for next season and beyond.  The firm, the Naked Men, has also worked with SciFi Channel, also owned by NBC.

With next fall’s Jay Leno experiment eating up five hours of prime time programming each week, the pressure on NBC’s shows to deliver grows exponentially.  It also means less time for scripted series.  This puts shows like “Chuck” and “Knight Rider” clearly on the hot seat.

And while it wouldn’t be all that tragic if “Knight Rider” became extinct, it would be tragic to see “Chuck” fall victim to the heavy hand of cancellation.

I hate to be pessimistic, but you know TV execs usually pick shows to reach the lowest common denominator. While Chuck isn’t highbrow entertainment, its far more sophisticated then Knightrider; which is just car porn, and not very good car porn at that.

Also, I can’t hold out much hope for Chuck if Naked Man is the same firm which directed the SciFi channel to bring us its current crop of crap reality shows.

Some days I really hate TV networks and the lower primates who run them .

The sci fi channel should just pick up chuck. Instead of filling programming with retarded b level movies about giant bunnies killing scantily clad women, they could put on a show which is niche to their audience and actually caters to bringing in viewers, rather than turning them away with low quality garbage

Anyone else say to them selves, “why the hell is Leno getting a primetime slot”. I mean I have watched his show, the only funny thing on there is the news clippings, and that is what 5 min tops.

New villain in chuck, The Network.

Chuck, is one of the better shows on tv. Yes it’s not that unpredictable, but it one that a family can watch together. Clearly if it doesn’t come back I know it’s time to increase my purchasing of satellite rv.
Come on NBC listen to the silent majority, make a stand for something besides idolesk or esposal like trists or human humiliation….yes those are cheaper but continue in the originality direction.
    KEEP CHUCK GOING!!!!!
This is much like Northern exposure…. and automakers without a commitment to doing whats right.
Look at Ford no Government money making good small cars again NBC had a lot of garbage on the boob tube comes out with a winner keeps it on…why because its a commitment to watchable TV.
Just don’t continue to use it as a fill between specials make it like Disney was… “you can always count on it!…
Maybe you can get Ford to sponsor it instead of Knight Rider….better bang for the buck
