It has a star, it has a director and now the big-screen adaptation of “Preacher” has a screenwriter.
According to Variety, writer John August has been tapped to write the big-screen version of “Preacher.”
Sam Mendes will direct the film, which centers on the preacher of a Texas town who is struggling to get by and is driven only by his strong moral sense. When the city is decimated by an otherworldly force, he embarks on a journey across the country to take on the evil.
The movie will be based on the popular comic book series that ran for 75 issues. No word yet which elements of the comic’s mythology will be incorporated into the film.

I will be so happy if this ever becomes a reality on screen, but I seem to recall rumors about it being an HBO mini-series instead… It is definately not going ot be the same if they have to shove it all into a 2 hour film.
