Barrowman Writes “Torchwood” Comic

January 14, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 1 Comment

Actor John Barrowman is collaborating with his sister, Carol E. Barrowman, on the script for an upcoming “Torchwood” comic strip. Featuring art by Lee Edwards and Trevor Goring, the strip will find Captain Jack facing a deadly threat on a remote Scottish island, where people are disappearing one by one. To his horror, Jack starts to suspect he may know who – or perhaps more specifically what — is responsible.

The brother and sister said the idea came to them while working together on John’s autobiography.

“In between our storytelling and moments of inspired silliness (maybe one or two), we decided we’d like to work on a project together that involved Captain Jack,” Carol said. “I sent John a short story I’d written, “The Tale of the Selkie.” Almost immediately he called and said, ‘This should be our first Captain Jack tale.'”

At last year’s San Diego ComicCon, the brother and sister met Edwards and Goring. They four hit it off and agreed to work together on the comic strip.

“We hope fans love it as much as we do,” the Barrowman siblings said.

The comic strip will debut in issue number 14 of “Torchwood Magazine.” The issue goes on sale in the UK in February and the U.S. in March.

Having written a story about a selkie myself, I wonder they’re going to do with the idea! Too bad I don’t get Torchwood magazine. 🙁
