BBC America Head: “Torchwood” Season Three Coming to U.S.

January 12, 2009 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

The third series will air in the United States–and possibly only a few hours after it airs in the UK.

Speaking at Television Critics Association Janaury tour, BBC America president Garth Ancier confrimed the third series will air in the United States on BBC America and that it will run for five nights. The new season of “Torchwood” will be a five-episode mini-series called “Children of Earth.”

Ancier couldn’t pin down a specific date for the return of “Torchwood,” saying that BBC America is waiting for the BBC to announce when the series will air in the UK. However, he did say a deal is in the works that would allow American fans to see the miniseries the same day as fans in the UK.

Ancier also said negotiations are underway to show the miniseries in high definition on the BBC America HD channel.

Now, if only they’d get on the bandwagon and bring “Doctor Who” to the U.S. on the same day it airs in the U.K…..

Sweet! I’ve been dying for this announcement ever since Julie Gardner confirmed the deal with BBCA at ComicCon. I think the proliferation of The Next Doctor on YouTube has made them realize that Americans really do want Whoniverse content as quickly as possible.

    That’s awesome!

If you want Doctor who to air on the same day as it does in England, your going to have to take it from SCIFI. SCIFI would noever do something as logical, as cool, or as awesome as that…thats why people downlaod it.

i grew up on sifi it has always rocked my world, but when i found torchwood, my world ran amuck,. the cast is simply hypotic. it is really hard t o wait to find out if torchwood is alive &kicking. im’a a new fan i think that may be why i’am so lost. but then i have to remind myself that it took time in the fifties
to chatch on.there is actually a budget,so your worlds are far & wide i have so much more to talk about, i’am on a slip stream that i can’t release thank the powers that be thay have enlighend america to the BBC for without them how would TORCHWOOD ever come in to being. kathleen
