The momentum for “Dark Knight” continues to build. After winning five People’s Choice Awards earlier this week, the film picked up several Director’s Guild Award nominations yesterday according to the Hollywood Reporter.
“Dark Knight” was one of five films nominated for best picture. The summer blockbuster was joined by “Slumdog Millionaire,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Frost/Nixon” and “Milk” as finalists for the DGA’s best picture award.
The nominations by the DGA mirror those of the Producer’s Guild, announced earlier in the week.
These nominations are seen as a pre-cursor to an Oscar nod. However, it should be pointed out that two years ago, “Dreamgirls” got a nod from the DGA only to not get a best picture nod when the Oscar nominations were announced.
“Really, it’s just delightful to have your work recognized and have people praising it,” said director Christopher Nolan, who also picked up a DGA nod. “I didn’t really take on the ‘The Dark Knight’ thinking it was on obvious awards-garnering movie, so it’s really unexpected and a delight.”
