“Torchwood” Begins Filming Series Three

“Torchwood” Begins Filming Series Three

August 27, 2008 By Mike Hickerson 8 Comments

The good news for “Torchwood” fans is the series three has begun filming in Cardiff.

The popular “Doctor Who” spin-off series began shooting its third season this week.  As previously reported, the third series will be a single-storyline, five-part shortened season for the hit spin-off.  The five episodes are set to air as a “Torchwood” special event/week sometime in early to mid 2009 in the UK.

“The new series of ‘Torchwood’ is hugely bold and promises to be bigger and better than ever,” Davies said in a statement. “The audience is in for an amazing ride. This series is one big serial and the most ambitious story we’ve ever made, and we’ve got plenty of surprises in store.”

This year’s five-part story will star John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper and Gareth David-Lloyd as Ianto Jones. Also reprising their recurring roles are Kai Owen as Gwen’s husband, Rhys, and Tom Price as PC Andy.

According to SCI FI Wire, special guests in the five part series include Peter Capaldi, who plays the role of Mr. Frobisher, a civil servant who is hiding a terrible secret; Paul Copely as Clem, a survivor still haunted by his past; and Liz May Brice as Johnson, a cynical covert government agent determined to expose Torchwood.

Before they return to the TV screens, “Torchwood” will feature in BBC Radio 4’s day long coverage of the CERN Big Bang experiment on September 10.  The special radio special is expected to air around 2:15 in the afternoon in the UK.

For those who missed “Torchwood”‘s second season, it comes to DVD in September.  The first season will also be issued on Blu-Ray in the United States. The third season of “Torchwood” will air in 2009 on the BBC, BBC America and HDNet.

I like that it’ll be a serial, but I wish there were more than just five episodes. It really doesn’t seem long enough for a season.

Hate to disagree with you a bit here, slightly. But series two really made Torchwood come intoits own. Without Doctor Who, this would have been a great year for Toechwood to come into its own. This is not a season, this is a mini series.

When BBC America shows this, will it be all in one week like the original broadcast, or will they show the episodes (and they ARE episodes, not parts) over the course of five weeks?

I’m in the 30 age range. The rumored overhual of Torchwood from an adult oriented show to a family friendlier show; as a gay man I and other gay men that follow the show feel that this is the first show that has portrayed a positive view of gay men. Not only is Captain Jack the leading man but also increadably masculine. Most gay men that I know that watched the Torchwood really enjoyed the show for showing the world that gay or straight a leading should be cheered for their core values and bravery rather then their sexuality.

Fantastic, great to know when Torchwood will be returning, 5 episodes does not seem enough, but we have to be happy that itis returning as some programmes are not because of recession.
Really love this programme, as soon as a series has finished can’t wait until the next, only thing is lanto was killed off in series 2 so how can he be returning in episode 3 (glad he is mind you but would like to know how he can be returning.)
keep these episode coming Thank you Russel T Davies for an excellent programme I wish I could afford to buy all of the episodes that have been on our screens.
    Loving Fan xxx
