Connelly Standing Still

November 6, 2007 By S. K. Sloan 3 Comments

The beautiful and talented actress Jennifer Connelly (“Dark Water,” “Blood Diamond”) will be joining Keanu Reeves in the 20th Century Fox remake of the sci-fi classic “The Day the Earth Stood Still.” She will play the role originally made famous by Patricia Neal. Reeves will star as the alien Klaatu, an alien visitor to Earth on a mission. Klaatu was portrayed by the great Michael Rennie in the Robert Wise 1951 version.

jennifer-connelly.jpgAcademy Award winner Kathy Bates is currently negotiating with 20th Century to appear in this Scott Derrickson (“The Exoricism of Emily Rose”) re-imagining for the story that centers around an alien’s visit to Earth. Klaatu, has a message for all Earthlings, learn to live in peace or meet ultimate destruction from the hands of a vast galactic power.

One note of trivia, popular sci-fi writer Harry Bates (no relation to Kathy), wrote the original 1950’s script.

Shooting on location in Vancouver begins next month on the Ryan Douglas Pearson/David Scarpa screenplay.

well i do like the choice of actors so far. Just not sure on how they will be able to bring the storyline into the future. unless they keep it in the same time period as the original. have to wait and see.

Hmmm… not sure about this remake. Some classic things should be left alone. I think it would be more interesting to use Harry Bates original short story (Farewell to the Master)which bares little or no resemblance to Edmund H. North’s screenplay. As for Keanu I’m not so sure – you need someone with presence – maybe his Matrix experience has given him an edge. As for Jennifer Connelly – way to go !

And as always remember – A POX ON FOX !
