The long-awaited second “X-Files” film is finally a go, with 20th Century Fox setting a July 25, 2008 release date, according to a breaking news item from Variety.
Untitled project reunites “X-Files” creator Chris Carter, writer/producer Frank Spotnitz and the acting team of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, who will reprise their signature roles as FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
Duchovny has just completed a successful first season of the Showtime original series “Californication,” which has been renewed for a second season and Anderson is wrapping up two projects, director Robert B. Weide’s “How To Lose Friends & Alienate People,” and the black comedy “No One Gets Off In This Town.”
Long awaited? By whom? The first wasn’t any good, so I really can’t figure out who this raving-for-another-helping audience in waiting is.
While X-Files may have plenty of distractors, like yourself, the movie was received well enough, but what really drives the hype for this, even after all these years, is still the driving chemistry between Mulder and Scully.
Those who dislike the Files may scoff all they like, but those of us who loved the series, even the post Duchovny years, are looking forward to what Carter and Spotnitz are going to come up with after such a long hiatus.
Some of us are also hoping Robert Patrick and Mitch Pileggi will also have a role to play in this “LONG AWAITED” X-Files entry.

I haven’t been “longly awaiting for” this movie, but I am an “X-Files” fan, so I’ll definitely go see it, regardless of what it’s about. And I do hope that Agent Doggett and Skinner at least make an appearance. And maybe Agent Reyes, as well?
Even Mike and Summer poked fun at the news that this sequel was coming. It’s not like I’m breaking new ground here…
The “scary monster of the week†episodes of X-Files were some of the best horror TV ever aired. Who can forget “Tooms,†that sewer fluke-worm creature from Jersey, that killer doll episode, the various ghosts episodes and the infamous inbred family episode. X-Files had it all! I’m defintely looking forward to this movie. I enjoyed the alien /conspiracy mythology they developed, but apparently this movie won’t have that and that’s fine with me.
Plus, Mulder and Scully have great chemistry on-screen. I love these characters.
You’re looking forward to a movie that won’t have what you loved most about the source material? Oh, and that sewer fluke thing wasn’t from Jersey, it was from some Russian freighter or other ship in the ocean. Some kind of Chernobyl-mutated beastie.
Most people love to hate films. I pity them.
