Don’t Fandango Your “Simpsons 2” Tickets Just Yet

simpsons_tv_show.JPGAfter waiting 19 years for the first “Simpsons” movie, fans are wondering when Springfield’s favorite family might next return to the big-screen.

According to producer Al Jean, the wait could be a while.

“We would only do a sequel if we believed it was a movie that had to be made, just like we did with the first one,” Jean told the New York Post. “We wouldn’t want to do it just because the first one was successful, or because we wanted to make money off of a movie. We’d only do it if we had a script that we thought was great [and] there’s no script at this point.”

To date, “The Simpsons Movie” has earned a healthy $175 million at the box-office and was the number-one movie in America the weekend it opened and raking in enough opening weekend ticket sales to rank it as the third highest animated debut in history.

Fans may take some comfort from the first episode of the season, which has Bart writing on the chalkboard “I Will Not Wait 20 Years to Make Another Movie.”

The 19th season of “The Simpsons” debuts on Sunday, September 23rd on FOX and is rumored to have a shout-out to the summer blockbuster. “The Simpsons Movie” will be released on DVD in December 2007.

Thats too bad because the movie was pretty damn funny but I would imagine another movie might come after the series is finished, when ever that happens to be.
