Captain America’s Comic Book Future

March 7, 2007 By Michael Hickerson 5 Comments

Warning: This article reveals SPOILERs for future Captain America comic books.

Long-time Marvel Comics staple, Captain America’s fate has been decided–and it looks grim.

In an issue hitting stores today, Captain America is shot and killed by a sniper as he leaves a courthouse according to reports in the New York Daily News.

The death of a popular icon from the Marvel Comics gallery is expected to garner debate among not only comic fans but the general public as well. In 1993, DC Comics made the bold move of killing Superman in an epic battle with Doomsday, setting off a furious debate as well as strong sales for the entire Superman comic book line.

Of course, this is a comic book so death isn’t always final. Captain America could return to life, say editors at Marvel comics.

there use to be only one rule in comic books

    “only Bucky stays dead”

and even that superhero rule was broken

Actually I believe that rule was “no one is dead for good, except Uncle Ben”

    – as a side note — J Michael Straczynski found a loophole for that one too

Ed Brubaker (the current writer for Cap) frequents the same friendly neighborhood comic book store that I do. He gave me a warning to not miss issue #25. So I knew something was coming.

I read the issue this morning. And I’ll just say there is a lot more going on than “Captain America is shot and killed by a sniper”.

I would agree. They will bring him back, like many other heroes that have “died” before.

they’re going to bring him back it’s so easy to see
