The thought-provoking thriller about a totalitarian future Britain is about to arrive on DVD.
V For Vendetta tells the story of a young woman named Evey, played by Natalie Portman, who is rescued from the abuses of a totalitarian state by masked avenger V (Hugo Weaving). Hidden behind a Guy Fawkes mask, V is attempting to ignite a revolution against the corrupt rulers of Britain. Evey – and the detectives trying to track them both down – uncover the sad truth about V’s mysterious background.
From Joel Silver and the Wachowski brothers, creators of The Matrix trilogy, it’s based on the amazing graphic novel by Alan Moore first published in the 1980s.
You can read an interview with Moore about his latest work in SFX issue 147. Coincidentally, that hits the shops a few days after V for Vendetta is available to buy on DVD (31 July). It will be available as a single DVD and a two-disc Special Edition.
The single disc DVD will include “Freedom! Forever! Making V for Vendetta – a piece in which the cast and crew reveal the filmmaking process.
The Two-Disc Special Edition DVD release will be exclusive to HMV and will include that piece as well as a trailer and these additional items:

Sweet! This movie is awesome, the best movie of the year (followed closely by Superman Returns, IMHO).
I also have it on good authority that Australia’s EzyDVD retailer will make this DVD available with an exclusive collector’s tin, like the one they released with the R4 version of Serenity. Hope that helps someone.

I was quite surprised when I saw this movie on the big screen that no Mr Smith jokes came to mind. The mask helped a lot in selling the character.

Yaay!! I only hope I can wait unil Christmas.
Sam, any mention of Commentaries from the director or the Brothers?
By the way, the character of V was SO not Smith, that I think even if we’d seen his face there would have been no problem.
The mark of a good actor is that even if you don’t see his face…

Nope, nothing about commentaries was mentioned…but I assume there will be either text or (more probably) vocal commentaries available.
