Watch the Skies is a Swedish UFO conspiracy thriller, now coming to international audiences with the help of advanced AI tools.

The movie was released in Europe in 2022 as UFO Sweden, but is now being brought to English-speaking audiences using a proprietary AI technology, Flawless, which works with the original actors’ English dialogue to present a new version of the film that looks naturally as if the actors had recorded in English, a technique they call “immersive dubbing”.

First, actors Inez Dahl Torhaug and Jesper Barkselius talk about making the movie, and the relationship between Denise and Lennart given their complicated history around the disappearance of Denise’s father a few years earlier. The relationship is tense but also charming and compelling, as Denise believes she’s uncovered what really happened to her father, but needs the help of his old friends from the UFO Sweden group (who suffered after her father’s betrayal and disappearance) to finish her work.

Next, Flawless co-founder Scott Mann, Watch the Skies director Victor Danell and producer Albin Petterson talk about how the collaboration with Crazy Pictures came about to use this technology on the film.

The technology used by Flawless does not replace the actors’ voices, rather it uses the actors’ recorded English dialogue, and the AI creates a seamless presentation of the film so it would look natural to an English-speaking audience. The technology is fully approved by SAG-AFTRA, which is encouraging to note.

Here’s the Behind the Scenes promo for the technology:

Watch the Skies will be in limited theatrical US release on May 9 from XYZ Films, at 100 participating AMC Theatres. I really hope there will be a blu-ray release chock full of bonus features and extras.
