Director Ryan Kruger stops by to talk about his reimagined edition of the cult horror favorite Street Trash. He has taken the practical effects and the psychedelic-colored nature of the goo to new levels, and talks about why remake Street Trash (he’s also the co-writer), his love of cult classics, his dedication to using practical effects for this, and more.

Based on the 1987 original, this version moves the epicenter to Cape Town, South Africa, and pits a group of homeless friends against a corporation with a sinister plan: to erase their existence with a chemical concoction called “V”. Ryan also sees this movie as more of a sequel to the original rather than a typical remake, and enjoyed the chance to film this on 35mm rather than on digital.

Yes, this movie has a rather niche fan appeal, and may not be to everyone’s tastes, so be prepared for over-the-top presentations of mayhem and goo. And yes, also looking forward to hearing more about a Frankenhooker reimagining.

STREET TRASH is available on digital on November 19.

Knowing how most people feel about remakes & reboots, are there any other cult or underground classics that you would want to see get remade? Let us know! Send Summer an email, or leave a message in the comments below!
