Lucy Liu Cast as Watson in “Elementary”

Lucy Liu Cast as Watson in “Elementary”

February 28, 2012 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

CBS’s modern take on Sherlock Holmes has found its Watson.  Joan Watson, that is.

Actress Lucy Liu has been cast in the role of Joan Watson for the upcoming pilot Elementary.

The project, written by Robert Doherty, is set in present day and stars Jonny Lee Miller as detective  Sherlock Holmes, a former consultant to Scotland Yard whose addiction problems led him to a rehab center in New York City. Just out of rehab, Holmes now lives in Brooklyn with “sober companion” Joan Watson (Liu), a former surgeon who lost her license after a patient died, while consulting for the NYPD.

Watson’s going to be a woman. And…um…so what?
    Fall back, whiny Fanboys.
    Damn.

As far as I’M concerned, I’m happy Watson’s a woman. And I’m happy for Liu…BUT…why not REALLY make some heads explode and make her…wait for it…A BLACK WOMAN.
    Yes, I said it.
Oooooh! CBS is being all ‘edgy’ (like that supposed “punk” chick on NCIS? Please…) and they let Watson be portrayed as a woman. But they went the Safe Route and no one’s *really* going to complain because, well, Hot Asian Chick!! (More than just a couple of Fanboys has some YF going on. Believe it.)
    Hello, ‘Nikita’? Yeah.

Me? I know one thing: BBC’s Sherlock will kick Elementary’s pale, puny ass. And only need 3 episodes a season to do it.

    Just sayin’.

Let the flames begin in 3…2…1…

I have no problem with a female Watson, except that they will try and shove in a stupid romance between the two characters. That and I really don’t like Lucy Liu.

Oh I think they should make Holmes a black, Muslim woman and Watson a devout Catholic hispanic woman! WOOOOO! Let’s start popping heads left and right!!

Why not make him John “Sherlock” Holmes, a porn star that solves sex crimes & make Dr Joan “Moan” Watson a sex therapist? I just gave them an idea to double their ratings.
