No Shatner in Next “Trek”

No Shatner in Next “Trek”

June 21, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

Actor William Shatner has confirmed he won’t be part of the upcoming Star Trek sequel.

The actor has been campaigning for months to be part of the sequel, but it appears that won’t happen.

“”I have become an acquaintance of J.J. as of late but I’m afraid no.. no I will not be in Star Trek 2 I’m afraid,” tells the Daily Blam.

Of course, it could all be a diversion to hide Shatner’s cameo in the sequel….

I like William Shatner but I think the biggest reason he wasn’t in the first one and possibly the second is that his ego is getting in the way. I think he wants way more than just a cameo.

Quite true… He was offered a cameo part in the first film, but rejected it because it wouldn’t be on par with Leonard Nimoy’s part.

The best thing that the new Trek movie franchise can do is keep forging its own path (as opposed to simply retreading the original series), and bringing Shatner in will only hurt that. Hell, I don’t think Nimoy should come back for Trek 2; he worked in the first flick because he was a necessary part of the story, but anything in the next film would almost certainly feel shoehorned.

Love the Shat but his time has passed. If he is in it again it will be like watching Paul McCartney on SNL- Painful,Sad and just wish he would retire gracefully. Love him in ShiX My Dad Says but no more Trek, please. THe reboot will be better off.
