Tell Us What You Think About SyFy’s “Hollywood Treasure”

June 1, 2011 By News Droid 9 Comments

Hollywood Treasure follows Joe Maddaena, famed auctioneer, as he navigates his way through the intricate world of collecting showbiz and pop culture memorabilia. He has showcased everything from the Wicked Witch of the West hat and the vintage Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car to Mary Poppins’ carpet bag and other unforgettable props and costumes.

Your poll doesn’t have “Oh joy. Another auction show.” listed. What is the fascination with these things anyway?

Auctions…cooking shows…they don’t belong on SyFy…People still tuning in to SyFy are looking for Science Fiction…not this kind of crap.

The show is great EXCEPT for Joe himself. He comes off as a self centered d*ck who’s looking to maliciously pry treasured belongings fron their owners just to make a buck.

People still tuning in to SyFy looking for SciFi are gluttons for punishment, apparently.

I voted for the don’t care option, but I gave up WAAAY before they cancelled SGU. The end of BSG was the end of SciFi Channel as far as I’m concerned. This… THING… called SyFy… it ain’t SciFi.

I actually like this show. Very cool to see some of the things that are still floating around and how much they are worth!

Yes, I hate Syfy for canceling some of my favorite shows but life goes on and shows come and go. If a good one happens to be on Syfy I’ll tune in because a good genre show will get my support no matter where it is. The stupid and bad movies they make should be killing this station but I read they actually make decent money from them. Who is watching that crap!?

I like that the show’s focus seems to be more on finding the classic, high profile stuff from movies and TV shows that collectors would want, rather than just putting any marginally related scraps that anyone could find on eBay at one time or another.

I haven’t seen the new season’s ep yet, but last season, they spent most of the half-hour episode hunting down stuff, and the last 5 minutes or so on the actual auction. And Making it seem like the searches were last minute and rushed seemed to be the very opposite of the due diligence they have to put in to make sure whatever they’re evaluating is authentic… that part seemed forced and poorly staged to me. Maybe they changed that for this season?

I’ve watched it a few times. It’s alright. I get a kick out the moments that the people working with him, the woman to be specific, has no clue what she is even dealing with. Caught one with someone trying to sell off a Jaffa helmet and they brought in Chris Judge to authenticate it. She read some some label off of it “Does this mean anything, teal C?” Have to admit, chuckled pretty hard there.

I wonder what value you would put on the ancient plots that are regularly regurgitated by Hollywood?

I really like the show. I’m fascinated by the memorabilia found and what people are willing to pay for it. Trust me…if I were in a position to purchase some of the items featured; I would be the first one logging on or calling in to place my bid. The props are a part of cinematic history and I think that’s pretty cool.
